Rechargeable hearing aids have been at the top of hearing aid wearers’ wishlist for years. Last month, Phonak brought this technology to the public for the first time with the new Audéo B-R rechargeable hearing aid. Available in 3 technology levels and nine color options, the B-R combines an easy-to-use rechargeable interface with top-of-the-line hearing technology and sleek, discreet design.
Since its introduction, this receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid has been met with positive reviews from our patients and practitioners alike.
"With the Audéo B-R, I know that in an important meeting, at an important event, and everyday situation, patients will not have to worry about the hearing aid going out because a battery died,” says Glendale, CA hearing specialist Susie Grafman. “The Phonak Rechargeable sounds natural, has great clarity, and is easy to use for everyone. The patients I have fit are thrilled and they have been telling their family and friends."
Key Features: Audéo B-R Rechargeable Hearing Aid
All-Day Power with Rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries
The Audéo B-R is the first hearing aid to feature lithium-ion batteries. These are already the most popular battery type for consumer electronics like smartphones, digital cameras, and laptop computers. That’s because they are lighter weight, faster charging, and hold more charging cycles than traditional battery types. In the case of the Audéo B-R Rechargeable, this means 24 hours on a single charge and up to 4000 battery cycles.
Easy Use and Handling
Using this long-lasting technology has enabled Phonak to produce a hearing aid that doesn’t just feature reusable batteries, but never requires the wearer handle batteries at all. This is a big deal since small hearing aid batteries can be tough to manipulate, particularly as we grow older.
Instead, wearers need only pop their hearing aids into the charger and they’ll be ready for 24 hours of use after 3 hours of charging (or for 6 hours of use after a 30-minute quick charge). This makes it a lot like charging your cell phone at the end of the day.
The long, regular battery life also means wearers don’t need to worry about their hearing aids dying in the middle of the day (no more keeping a spare pair of hearing aids in your wallet!). And for those on the go, there’s a travel power pack that can reboot hearing aids for seven days without connecting to an external power source.
Next Generation Hearing Technology
The Phonak Belong platform comes less than 24 months after the introduction of the very popular Venture platform. Like Venture, Belong features the Autosense OS operating system, which automatically senses changes in the listening environment and changes to a blend of 200 different settings.
This technology must be heard to be believed. Even long-time hearing aid wearers note hearing sounds they have missed for years and say these perform especially well in cars, speech in noise, environments with echoes, and when listening to music.
The hearing aids can also be connected with a variety of other technology devices such as cell phones and computers via the ComPilot II or Easy Call accessories.
Is Audéo B-R Right for You?
While those looking for in-the-canal or the lowest budget options may want to look elsewhere, these new rechargeable hearing aids are a great choice for a broad range of wearers. Featuring advanced hearing technology, this is a comfortable and discreet option that can be adjusted to fit individuals with mild to severe hearing loss. The lack of battery replacement makes it an especially good choice for people who have trouble manipulating small objects with their hands.
