In the Ear (ITE) Hearing Aids

In-the-ear hearing aids (ITEs) include all hearing aids that are worn entirely in the ear (rather than behind it), including in-the-canal (ITC) and invisible in the canal or "invisible" hearing aids.

In the ear hearing aids can also mean the larger one-piece hearing devices pictured here. These aids fill the entire bowl of the ear and house all components in this single, custom-fitted piece.

Advantages of In-the-Ear Hearing Aids

  • Easy to handle and insert
  • Convenient controls
  • Able to fit larger (and longer lasting) battery than smaller styles

Disadvantages of In-the-Ear Hearing Aids

  • Somewhat conspicuous
  • Can create "plugged up" feeling
  • More susceptible to moisture problems than behind-the-ear aids

Are ITE hearing aids right for you?

In-the-ear hearing aids may be a good choice for you if you have mild to severe hearing loss and good dexterity in your hands.
